The Nippon Foundation is developing the "Zero Emission Ship Project" with the aim of achieving carbon neutrality in the coastal shipping sector by 2050. It has developed a hydrogen-fueled "zero-emission ship" and is currently conducting demonstration tests ahead of the rest of the world. At the same time, it has also launched the "Fully Autonomous Ship Project MEGURI2040" to develop vessels that are capable of advanced autonomous operation, with the aim of achieving 50% fully autonomous operation of domestic vessels by 2040.
