The Republic of Panama, strategically located, plays a crucial role in global maritime trade. Established in 1917, the Panama Ship Registry manages the nationalization of ship tonnage and has grown to be the largest State-owned registry in the world, overseeing more than 8,500 vessels totaling 246 million GT (15% of the global fleet). It also serves over 600,000 seafarers holding Panama competency licenses and leads in ship mortgage registration, which boosts confidence among banks and international finance. Committed to adapting to the evolving maritime industry, Panama's Ship Registry continues to improve services to meet the sector's needs and requirements.

REGISTRATION FOR SHIPS UNDER CONSTRUCTION

Any vessel under construction can apply for a Provisional Registration including radio License certification. From the year 2020, all Ship Registration and Radio License Certifications are issued by electronic means with a QR security Code.

MARITIME LOGBOOKS AND CREW ROLL BOOKS

Panamanian regulations require the following books to be on board every Panamanian flag vessel: 1. Official Log Book 2. Vessel Crew Logbook; 3. Oil Record Book and Emissions. Masters and owners/operators may use non-official books as long as there is a previous authorization of the Directorate General of Merchant Marine: 1. Deck Log Book 2. Engine Log Book 3. Garbage Record Book 4. Ballast Record Book
